WinRAR 5.30 beta was an archive-manager release discussed here in 2015. It should not be confused with a currently supported release or presented as a fresh download recommendation.
What the old note covered#
The source article described changes around multipart archives, archive testing and extraction behavior. Those are practical compatibility concerns: an archive can contain valid data yet still be awkward to handle if a tool does not understand its layout or naming conventions.
RARLAB maintains the product's download and release information. Use its own documentation to identify a version and platform, rather than downloading a beta because an old search result calls it new.
Keep a release note separate from a recommendation#
The former post implied that the Windows interface and all platform command-line tools were interchangeable products. This version avoids that assumption. Features and availability must be checked for the particular product and operating system.
Keep the release date beside a version number when comparing archived notes. A changelog can explain a past behavior without making that release suitable for a new installation. For the broader question of compression ratios, read why guaranteed compression claims fail.
