Changing a YouTube URL is not a dependable way to remove an age restriction. The older version of this article suggested swapping the watch-page URL for a player URL. That should not be treated as current viewing advice.
What the restriction means#
YouTube applies age restrictions to material it considers unsuitable for younger viewers. Its age-restricted video guidance explains the sign-in and eligibility requirements. Depending on the viewer's location and account, age verification can also be required.
If an eligible account cannot play a video, check the account's sign-in state, restriction message and official support steps. A URL rewrite does not establish the viewer's age or change the account's eligibility.
Avoid account workarounds sold as shortcuts#
Do not provide a password or session cookie to a site promising unrestricted playback. A cookie can grant account access even when no password is requested. Use the platform's own appeal or verification process if you think a restriction is wrong.
For ordinary playback failures without an age-restriction message, use the separate buffering and playback guide.
