Saving a video to a Facebook collection and downloading a video file are different actions. A saved link can still disappear if the owner removes the post or changes who can see it.
Look for an owner-provided download#
If you uploaded the video, check the controls for that video and Meta's account export options. If someone else uploaded it, use a download option they provide or ask for the original file. Public visibility does not by itself establish permission to reuse the footage.
Meta documents its account tools in the Facebook Help Center. Labels and available download options depend on the type of video and account.
Why the old downloader steps have been removed#
A third-party download service is not part of Facebook. Do not give a downloader your password, session cookie or account access. Browser extensions that ask to read every page deserve the same scrutiny.
Keep the original file if you created the video, and keep a note of the owner's permission if you plan to publish someone else's work. For YouTube, the download and VLC guide explains a similar distinction between official offline access and a reusable file.
